Total Dogs Funded in 2010

In 2010 LABMED funded a total of 55 dogs spending $19,800. Due to the economy we are receiving more applications for higher amounts of money. We were only able to partially fund every application that we approved, usually for less than half of what was requested. Until a couple of years ago we were usually able to fully fund applications that were approved. Please consider donating $11 (see $11 in 2011 post below) to help us with our mission to help Labradors in Need.

46 More Labradors Helped

1176 Labs have been helped by LABMED since we were founded. So far this year (as of October 31st) LABMED has funded 46 Labs in need for a total of $16,400 in funding. We have had to cut back the amount that we grant to each dog due to receiving far less donations over the last few years. In order to keep “our doors open” to receiving applications we depend on our supporters for donations or to support our fundraisers. We have no overhead as none of us take any compensation so ALL the money goes to the Labradors needing our help.

Here is a report on a dog that we funded 6 years ago.

It’s been a long time. I am the owner of Willie2 who was funded back in 2004. She came to me with Parvo and a pellet lodged in her side (already healed so didn’t know). She is almost 7 now. She has gone completely blind from retinal degeneration, has had partial psychomotor seizures for the last few years and about 6 months ago was diagnosed with fanconi’s disorder. It is possible she got that from the pellet metal that she was shot with prior to my meeting her but we don’t know for sure. The pellet was removed and she is progressing on her treatment for fanconi’s. It is possible she’ll recover, also possible she will be on daily supplements as well as phenobarb for the rest of her life.

Regardless, my dog Willie is truly a survivor. She runs on 4 treed acres daily and dives into the pond without fear. She only has trouble if I move something! Every now and then I just feel the need to say thank you again for helping us when we needed it. Dianne Ries

Carolina, another LABMED success story

Carolina was found in June in the middle of a busy road, lethargic, dehydrated and full of fleas. Fortunately she was rescued by the Camp Greendog Foundation. She tested moderately positive for heart worms and her rescuers applied to LABMED for assistance as they didn’t have the funds to treat her.

Carolina has now been adopted and we received this note from one of her rescuers:

“I’ve attached a picture of Carolina with her new parents. She is in a wonderful home in a community on a river with lots of open land and not much traffic. You can see from the picture how happy they are with her.

And the winner is……

The winner of the 2010 LABMED Quilt Raffle is Alice Hobbs! The winning ticket was drawn 10/22/10 and the quilt is now on its way to Alice. The winner of the runner up prize, a quilted table runner, is Michelle Rothenberger. Thank you to everyone who supported LABMED through purchasing quilt raffle tickets.

We will post photos and information here when the 2011 LABMED quilt is ready. Neither of these winners was present at the drawing having bought tickets either at a previous show where the quilt was displayed or through online ticket sales so be sure to purchase a ticket next year for your chance to win a beautiful Labrador themed quilt.

Donation in Honor of a Wedding
